Every Friday we will give you a few events we suggest checking out throughout the upcoming week. Let us know if you like ’em, or if you have any suggestions or events of your own! We’d love to keep the conversation going.

7/14
The LSLR Reads. One of Chicago’s best literary zines, and one of the nicest-looking.  Free admission, and light refreshments for donation. Comfort Station, Logan Square, 2579 N. Milwaukee Ave, Chicago, IL. 3-5 pm.~Liz and Rachel

7/14 Tamale Hut Cafe Reading Series. Don’t miss Matthew Bieniek reading from his second novel, The Hidden Message. Set in 1987, three high school friends and a former classmate get themselves in over their heads after planning to put their own radio show over a local television broadcast– resulting in “the TV station, the police, the FBI, the FCC, and a band of Soviet spies trying to find out who they are as they work to decipher a message hidden inside the disrupted TV signal.” Sounds like a perfect summer read and an event to check out. Tamale Hut Cafe, 8300 W. Cermak Rd. North Riverside.~Rachel

7/15 Bookstore Bicycle Crawl. Grab your bikes and your (empty) book bags and go on a cycling tour of some of Chicago’s most beloved bookstores! Starts at Powell’s in Lakeview, goes to BookWorks, Unabridged, Quimby’s, Open Books, and ends at Powell’s in University Village. Free, so you can spend your hard-earned pay on books instead. 2850 N. Lincoln Ave, 3444 N. Clark St, 3521 N. Broadway, 1854 W. North Ave, 213 W. Institute Pl., and 1218 S. Halsted, Chicago, IL.~Liz and Rachel

7/18 Bonnie Jo Campbell reads at the Book Cellar from her new novel, Once Upon A River. This should be a treat: in person, Campbell’s just as witty as her writing is gritty. 4736 N Lincoln Ave, Chicago, IL. 7 pm.~Liz
